London Irish

CityJet is the new main sponsor of the London Irish for the season 2008/2009

The agreement incorporates team travel and a progressive bonus structure based on the club’s performances in the Guinness Premiership and European Challenge Cup. The new agreement builds on the airline’s initial sponsorship of the Exiles’ successful run in the Heineken Cup last season.

Dublin-based CityJet operates an extensive network of flights from London City, Dublin and Paris Airports on behalf of Air France.  The airline has a fleet of 25 aircraft, employs 760 staff and carries some 1.8 million passengers every year.

As London Irish begins its 110th year it is fitting that the club’s main sponsor should have such strong Irish associations.  The airline will operate special flights to carry the London Irish team, support staff and management to and from their key games in Europe during the season.

Announcing the new sponsorship on the 6th of august 2008, Andrew Coppel, Chairman of London Irish said, “We’re delighted to have secured CityJet as our new main sponsor.  Last season’s initial association between the airline and the club was mutually beneficial and I’m confident that we will build on that not only for the coming campaign but also for seasons to come."

Geoffrey O’Byrne-White, Chief Executive of CityJet said, “Developing awareness of our brand and positioning it among key target audiences in the United Kingdom is essential to the future growth of this airline." “CityJet, together with Air France, has developed a broad and successful network out of London City, flying business passengers to Dublin, Paris, Edinburgh, Geneva, and a host of other destinations everyday”

Mr O’Byrne-White said: “In London Irish we believe that we’ve found a partner that can help us to further realise our objectives in the UK market. The London Irish brand’s strong links to Ireland and its consumer demographics are uniquely compatible with our target market.  We’re looking forward to working with the club to develop our services from London City Airport.”
