Abbey Theatre


CityJet is a proud sponsor of the Abbey Theatre, one Ireland’s finest literary and cultural treasures. The theatre was founded in 1903, it became a nursery for many of the leading playwrights and actors of the 20th century, including WB Yeats, Lady Gregory , Seán O’Casey and John Millington Synge.
 
Today, it continues to rejuvenate plays from the Irish repertoire as well as innovative international theatre. Located in the heart of Dublin city on lower Abbey street, the theatre stages plays all year round.

 

  • Lay me down softly, a new play by Wexford playwright Billy Roche will be staged from 19th November – 13th December.
  • An irreverent new version of  The Playboy of the Western World by Roddy Doyle and Bisi Adigun will  run from 17th December 2008 – 10 January 2009.
  • Highlights of the 2009 programme include Marina Carr’s Marble which will be staged from 17th February – 14th March.
  • Jason Byrne directs Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors which has a long run from the 31st March – 2nd May.
