What's happening September/October in Rotterdam The Netherlands Military Tattoo, from 29 September to 3 October at the Sportpalace Hall in Ahoy Rotterdam, is one of the biggest and loudest military celebrations in Europe with a dazzling display of band precision and first-class entertainment. There are now relatively few tattoos around the world, and the Netherlands Military Tattoo is considered by many to be one of the best. The word "tatoo" derives from the old Dutch term "tap den toe", which described how a military band and drums would march through the streets of a garrison town to alert the taverns of the curfew for the troops. www.nationaletaptoe.nl
