Cuisine here is traditional, regional, seasonal, in sync with produce available at the local farmers’ market. The menus are not just appetizing and alluring, they’re rooted in this land of foie gras (goose liver), safran truffles, duck, river fish such as pikeperch, and locally produced pastis, a sunny anis-based drink that will make your stay in the Quercy memorable. Enjoy the spacious and sunny terrace for lunch or dinner. Head to the luminous dining room for a tête-à-tête or a meal with friends or family. Take a splash in the splendid swimming pool or laze by the poolside on a hot summer’s day. Drop into the honey-coloured rattan sofas and armchairs in the bar and lounge for refreshments and small talk...

KNOWLEDGE
The Dordogne region is quintessentially French with old stone villages, cobbled streets and housewives gossiping on doorsteps. It's an idyllic version of the British countryside but with a far superior climate. The summer is long and warm and the stunning scenery is perfect for relaxing or as a setting to the many activities available in the region. The brand new Brive Airport, opening in June 2010, will be the best situated airport for UK visitors to the Dordogne, Lot and Correze regions. The area offers beautiful scenery, cycling, fishing and canoeing as well as access to the stunning medieval towns of Bergerac, Turenne and Sarlat. Brive is also home to a highly regarded rugby team.
SECRETS
The Dordogne is famous for its prehistoric cave paintings, but many of the best are closed for fear of damage from condensation. The best still open to the public are at Font-de-Gaume, Les Eyzies, where there are some wonderful images of bison and wild horses. For the best local produce, be sure to visit the weekly markets in the region. Amongst the best are those at Sarlat and Perigueux, but for something extra special try the Sunday market in the village of Issigeac.
